If you're looking to chow down on some big, bold flavors, Goto is not the place for you. Here, expect to find exquisitely fine traditional Japanese food with clean, subtle tones on the palate.
I was lucky to try out a 10-course menu that consisted mostly of fish and vegetables, leaving me feeling full, but not guilty. Generally, dishes were very simple and once again proved that high-quality, fresh ingredients requires little tampering with to be successful.
The details were nice: from being asked to choose from an assortment of different sake glasses, to the hand-whisked foamy green tea served after dessert. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I didn't see the tab to comment on value-for-money, but I am guessing it cost quite a bit--don't forget to bring the plastic since you'll probably be short of cash!

With set-lunches averaging around $15, it's hard to beat this place for value (sets come with sashimi, soup, steamed tofu, and a side-salad). I opted for the cod set, as well as an order of swordfish sashimi. Happy and stuffed, all for just under $35

Despite having to wait 45 minutes even with a reservation, Robuchon's winter tasting menu was thoroughly satisfying. $190 for 6 courses is steep, but you're served sure-winner items like foie gras, truffle and kobe to make up for it.

Don't walk too fast or you'll walk right by this tiny SoHo gem! The lamb sandwich made me redefine my stubborn notions that all lamb equals gamey and unappetizing--it was succulent, tender, and doused in a special sauce, was quite special.
